As part of emergency support to Ukraine’s agricultural sector, the molecular genetics laboratory of the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination received a modern Real-Time PCR amplifier together with reagent kits and essential laboratory supplies.
Supporting agricultural science is an important part of strengthening the resilience of Ukraine’s agricultural sector and the country’s long-term food security.
As part of support to the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination, a modern Real-Time PCR amplifier, together with reagent kits and the necessary consumables, was delivered to its molecular genetics laboratory.
The equipment was installed by a service engineer representing the manufacturer in Ukraine. Laboratory staff also received installation training covering the use and maintenance of the new system.
The amplifier is used for real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and enables researchers to identify plant DNA.
This technology supports the assessment of key plant variety characteristics, including:
variety identification;
distinctness;
uniformity;
stability;
value for cultivation and use.
These capabilities are an important part of modern plant variety testing and contribute to strengthening the scientific capacity of Ukraine’s agricultural research system.
The assistance was provided under the Subproject for Agriculture Sector Urgent Support, implemented with support from the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency JICA, with the participation of Crown Agents.
The project forms part of Japan’s broader support for Ukraine, aimed at restoring agricultural capacity, modernising research infrastructure and providing Ukrainian institutions with the equipment required to continue scientific work under wartime conditions.
