Crown Agents Ukraine and Crown Agents Japan, through JICA's Grant Aid Programme for Emergency Recovery, delivered machinery, laboratory equipment and seeds worth nearly JPY 1.95 billion to four leading Ukrainian agricultural institutes.
Agriculture is one of the pillars of Ukraine's economy and food security. The war has caused immense disruption to farming, agricultural research and food production, damaging fields, destroying machinery, and cutting off institutes from essential tools and resources.
Through the Government of Japan's Grant Aid Programme for Emergency Recovery, implemented via JICA, Crown Agents Japan, in partnership with Crown Agents Ukraine, has been working with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine to deliver urgent support.
The programme covers a wide range of equipment and resources, procured and distributed to leading agricultural institutes across Ukraine, including:
Tractors, combine harvesters, and sowing machines to replace damaged machinery and ensure continuity of fieldwork
Diesel generators to provide backup energy for farms and research centres
Laboratory equipment such as gas chromatographs, atomic absorption spectrometers, and automatic soil samplers for research on soil, seeds, and crop quality
Seeds of key crops including wheat, barley, rye, and rapeseed to restart planting cycles
Advanced research instruments, including GNSS/RTK receivers and dynamometer systems for agricultural machinery testing
In total, the support amounts to nearly JPY 1.95 billion, distributed among four leading institutions — the Institute of Soil Protection of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Research Institute of Forecasting and Testing of Equipment and Technologies for Agricultural Production, the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination, and the V. M. Remeslo Myronivka Institute of Wheat — helping farmers and researchers continue sowing, harvesting, and crop testing despite wartime conditions.
Crown Agents Ukraine is responsible for procurement and logistics coordination for this project, financed under Japan's Grant Aid for Ukraine's Emergency Recovery Programme.
