“Art of Healing”: Children’s Stories Told Through Creativity

The “Art of Healing” exhibition presented works created by children who experienced occupation, displacement and the loss of their homes. The Save Ukraine initiative, supported by Crown Agents Ukraine, demonstrates how creativity can provide a safe way for children to express difficult experiences and support their emotional recovery.

How can pain be expressed when words are difficult to find?

For children who have experienced occupation, displacement, the loss of their homes or separation from loved ones, creativity can provide a way to communicate experiences that may be too difficult to discuss directly.

The “Art of Healing” exhibition presented children’s artworks created as part of their emotional recovery process. Through drawings, children were able to express their memories, emotions, fears and hopes.

The exhibition featured works by children who had experienced evacuation from frontline areas and occupation. Each artwork represents more than a creative exercise — it reflects an individual story and provides a safe way for a child to engage with difficult experiences.

The project demonstrates the role that art can play in psychological support. Creative activities can help children express emotions, process what they have experienced and gradually rebuild a sense of safety and control.

“Art of Healing” forms part of the broader work carried out by Save Ukraine through its psychological support centres.

For Crown Agents Ukraine, supporting initiatives of this kind contributes to creating safer environments for children affected by the war and to strengthening approaches that help them recover through creativity and psychological support.
