Power Supply System Upgraded at the All-Ukrainian Centre for Maternal and Child Health

New electrical switchboards with an automatic power transfer system have been installed at the All-Ukrainian Centre for Maternal and Child Health, helping ensure that critical medical equipment can continue operating during power interruptions.

A reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply is essential for any modern healthcare facility, particularly one providing specialised care to newborns and patients who require continuous monitoring and intensive treatment.

At the All-Ukrainian Centre for Maternal and Child Health, the electrical infrastructure has been upgraded with new switchboards equipped with an automatic power transfer system.

A stable electricity supply is essential for the operation of critical equipment, including:

  • neonatal incubators;

  • mechanical ventilators;

  • patient monitoring systems;

  • operating theatre lighting;

  • other equipment required for continuous medical care.

If the main electricity supply is interrupted, the new system enables the facility to switch to backup power automatically and almost immediately, avoiding a prolonged interruption or the need for manual switching.

For a healthcare facility, this is particularly important. Even a short loss of electricity can affect equipment that patients depend on for essential or life-sustaining care.

The electrical infrastructure upgrade formed part of Phase I of the Centre’s modernisation, which also included other improvements aimed at increasing the safety, reliability and accessibility of the facility.

The project was implemented with financial support from the Ukraine Solidarity Fund, established by the Council of Europe Development Bank to support Ukraine’s recovery and resilience.

Crown Agents Ukraine supports the implementation of the project, helping create conditions in which healthcare professionals can continue providing care while critical medical equipment remains operational even during disruptions to the electricity supply.
