Crown Agents Ukraine and Crown Agents Japan, through JICA's Grant Aid Programme for Emergency Recovery, delivered generators, switchgear and grid equipment to Ukraine's Ministry of Energy to help stabilise the national power system.
Since the beginning of the war, Ukraine's energy sector has faced unprecedented challenges. Attacks on critical infrastructure have left entire regions without power and heating, while the national grid has been under constant strain.
Through the Grant Aid Programme for Emergency Recovery provided by the Government of Japan via the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Crown Agents Japan and Crown Agents Ukraine have been working with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine to deliver urgent support to the sector.
The programme has focused on procuring and delivering equipment that helps maintain and restore the functioning of Ukraine's energy system, including:
Diesel generators of various capacities, providing backup power for critical infrastructure, from hospitals to regional distribution centres
High-voltage switchgear and transformers, strengthening the reliability of electricity transmission and distribution
Protective relay systems and voltage stabilisers, securing the grid against instability and overload
Specialised tools and spare parts for repair crews restoring damaged power lines and substations under emergency conditions
For ordinary Ukrainians, the equipment means hospitals stay powered during blackouts, schools can continue classes, and water utilities keep functioning — with the assistance also building long-term resilience into the country's infrastructure beyond the immediate emergency period.
Crown Agents Ukraine is responsible for procurement and logistics coordination for this project, financed under Japan's Grant Aid for Ukraine's Emergency Recovery Programme.
